The top legal official in Texas Ken Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the producers of Tylenol, alleging the corporations concealed potential risks that the pain reliever posed to pediatric neurological development.

The court filing follows thirty days after President Donald Trump advocated an unproven link between taking Tylenol - referred to as paracetamol - throughout gestation and autism spectrum disorder in young ones.

The attorney general is filing suit against J&J, which previously sold the medication, the exclusive pain medication approved for pregnant women, and Kenvue, which now manufacturers it.

In a official comment, he said they "misled consumers by making money from pain and promoting medication regardless of the dangers."

The manufacturer says there is no credible evidence tying Tylenol to autism.

"These corporations deceived for years, knowingly endangering countless individuals to boost earnings," Paxton, from the Republican party, stated.

Kenvue said in a statement that it was "seriously troubled by the spread of false claims on the safety of acetaminophen and the possible consequences that could have on the health of American women and children."

On its website, Kenvue also mentioned it had "regularly reviewed the relevant science and there is insufficient valid information that demonstrates a proven link between taking paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Organizations representing physicians and health professionals agree.

The leading OB-GYN organization has stated acetaminophen - the main ingredient in acetaminophen - is a restricted selection for pregnant women to treat pain and elevated temperature, which can create major wellness concerns if left untreated.

"In over twenty years of studies on the utilization of acetaminophen in gestation, zero credible investigations has definitively established that the usage of acetaminophen in any period of gestation causes neurological conditions in children," the organization said.

This legal action mentions recent announcements from the previous government in claiming the drug is allegedly unsafe.

In recent weeks, the former president caused concern from public health officials when he advised expectant mothers to "resist strongly" not to use Tylenol when ill.

The FDA then released a statement that doctors should consider limiting the use of acetaminophen, while also stating that "a proven link" between the drug and autism spectrum disorder in minors has not been established.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who supervises the Food and Drug Administration, had pledged in April to initiate "a massive testing and research effort" that would determine the cause of autism spectrum disorder in a limited time.

But authorities warned that identifying a single cause of autism spectrum disorder - considered by experts to be the consequence of a complex mix of genetic and surrounding conditions - would be difficult.

Autism spectrum disorder is a category of lifelong neurodivergence and disability that influences how persons perceive and engage with the world, and is identified using doctors' observations.

In his legal document, the attorney general - a Trump ally who is campaigning for US Senate - claims the manufacturer and Johnson & Johnson "intentionally overlooked and sought to suppress the research" around paracetamol and autism.

The lawsuit attempts to require the firms "remove any marketing or advertising" that states acetaminophen is safe for pregnant women.

The Texas lawsuit parallels the grievances of a assembly of mothers and fathers of minors with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who filed suit against the makers of Tylenol in recently.

A federal judge rejected the case, saying studies from the family's specialists was not conclusive.
