Bouldering in the Peaks
Including absolute newcomers will quickly be ascending protected regional rock faces on this two-day course. Participants will learn tying in, belaying and several methods of ascent, as well as descending. Capped at six participants to one instructor, there is a lot of one-on-one guidance and tailored objectives. The training is open to all individuals aged 13 and over, ranging from first-time climbers to those with limited indoor experience. It is day-only course, but there is a list of suggested, budget-friendly places to stay close by, such as campgrounds, hostels, B&Bs and inns. The base is a brief walk from Bamford railway station, which is on the rail route from Manchester to Sheffield.

Non-Representational Art in Spain
Moclín, a historic town in Andalucía, around a short drive from Granada, is the inspiring backdrop for this creative getaway. Participants of all abilities – including novices – will be taught how to plan and create modern art. A portion of the time will be spent in the open air, working on guided exercises in the open. These charcoal drawings and paintings will then be expanded upon in the workspace, with guests producing a number of abstract landscapes in acrylic paint to be shown in the local community. The group has sole use of the hotel, which is centered on an central patio and has a rooftop with panoramic vistas over the hills. The fee includes five days of painting tuition; all meals; and an outing to the nearby fortress and additional points of interest.

Ottolenghi-Inspired Culinary in the Algarve
This Mediterranean cooking retreat, located at a riverside villa in the inland Portuguese region, is draws inspiration from the vegetarian dishes of celebrated cooks. Attendees will learn to produce meze spreads, attend a hands-on falafel session, refine brunch dishes such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses like spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. There are trips to the local market and a local vineyard to taste Portuguese wines, plus free time for walks by the Funcho River, to relax on the deck or swim in the infinity pool. The farmhouse, a former farmhouse, has five bedrooms, as well as glamping tents in the grounds.

Street Dance in High Wycombe
This energetic camp is an uplifting, inclusive weekend adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The daily schedule each day is a party-style group warmup, followed by several hour-and-a-half classes teaching different street dance styles, then an 60-minute freestyle session to show off new moves. Dancers are divided into groups based on ability and experience, so it is perfect for those who are brand new to popping and locking, right up to advanced dancers or teachers. The camp doesn’t include lodging but there are a number of hostels and hotels nearby, and it is 23-35 minutes by train into central London.

Sea Shanty Break in St Ives
This coastal town is the perfect location for a maritime music retreat. Participants will be taught historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and have a go at writing their own. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breathing exercises, stagecraft advice and a closing performance. The holiday is held in a rural hotel overlooking the bay. All meals are included, including a Cornish cream tea on the first day, cooked or continental breakfasts, packed lunches and evening meals. Grog, alas, is not provided. Creative Writing in Greece
Author and lecturer an experienced instructor runs the daily workshops on this writing retreat. He covers topics including plot, character development, setting and tension, to sending manuscripts to agents. A co-host, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host special sessions at the beginning and end of the retreat. The retreat is based at a traditional complex in Vamos at the foot of the White mountains – ten private accommodations surround a garden and pool (companions are encouraged to come along). On the last night, budding authors celebrate with a musical performance in the courtyard and a farewell dinner.

Introduction to Beekeeping in Mid Wales
A leading eco-centre near Machynlleth runs a wide range of programs covering eco-living: from creating habitats to making pallet furniture. This weekend course will help attendees learn the fundamentals of beekeeping, study the biology of bees and learn about their environmental benefits. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to de-stress in the centre's sustainably managed woodlands, which are habitat for polecats, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and uncommon bird species. These recently launched weekend sailing courses are spent on Wayfarers and Dufours on the Blackwater estuary. They are aimed at novice sailors starting out or more experienced mariners who want a skills update. Participants can improve their helming, build their seamanship and aim for the recognized certification levels in a supportive atmosphere. There are non-residential and residential packages, with accommodation in simple dorms in the waterfront training centre. The day option provides lunches, while the overnight option covers two nights’ accommodation and full board, from full English breakfasts to BBQ dinners.
